Let's cut through the fluff. If you want to know if a GEVEY™ turbo SIM will unlock your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S, you'll need to look at three things--your iPhone model, your iPhone network, and your iPhone modem firmware version. Your modem firmware version will change if you update your iPhone, and this usually accompanies an iOS update.
If you own a CDMA iPhone 4 from Sprint or Verizon, your iPhone doesn't have a SIM tray, so unfortunately you won't be able to use a GEVEY™ turbo SIM. If you own a GSM iPhone 4, a GSM iPhone 4S, or a CDMA iPhone 4S, you've passed the first test.
Sprint and Verizon use a complex locking method on their CDMA iPhone 4S, so this means you are going to have to jailbreak your CDMA iPhone 4S in order to use a GEVEY™ turbo SIM to unlock your phone. As of this posting, there is no jailbreak for iOS 5.1, so unfortunately you won't be able to use a GEVEY™ turbo SIM to unlock your CDMA iPhone 4S if you've already upgraded to iOS 5.1. But if you still run iOS 5.0.1 on your CDMA iPhone 4S, or if you have a GSM iPhone 4 or GSM iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1 or earlier, you've passed the second test.
Now it's time to check your modem firmware, AKA base-band. To find your modem firmware version, turn on your iPhone and open your Settings. In the Settings menu, find the General menu item, the one with the gears. In the General menu, click on the About menu item. Scroll down until you find the modem firmware version, which should be near the end of the menu.
Currently, our GEVEY™ turbo SIM will unlock:
- GSM iPhone 4 with modem firmware up to 4.10
- GSM iPhone 4S with modem firmware versions up to 2.0.10
- Jailbroken CDMA iPhone 4S with modem firmware up to 1.0.14
